THE PERFORMANCE SHORT FILM COMPETITION 2023 – TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. Instructions on how to enter the Performance Short Film Competition 2023 competition (“the Competition”) and details regarding the Competition contained herein form part of these Terms and Conditions. Entry into and participation in this Competition is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. This Competition is not valid in conjunction with any other offer, competition or promotion by Performance Film & Media Insurance.

2. No purchase is necessary to enter the Competition.

3. The Competition is free to enter and open to any resident of the UK over the age of 18, subject to paragraph below, except employees of Performance Film & Media Insurance.

4. Residents of the UK are entitled to enter the Competition, provided their submitted film has:

  • Been completed since 1st January 2022
  • Has a maximum running time of 20 minutes
  • Please note we can not accept any pornographic or ‘adult’ films.

5. The Competition commences at 13:00 BST on 1st June 2023 (“the Commencement Date”) and closes at 17:00 BST on 10th August 2023(the “Closing Date”). The period between the Commencement Date and the Closing Date shall be the Competition entry period (the “Competition Entry Period”)

6. To in the Competition, Entrants must submit their entry via the following webform. The Entrant must own the whole of the copyright in the Short Film. In circumstances where the Short Film or parts thereof are derived from or contain images, sounds or material from an existing work, the Entrants must have obtained written copyright clearance from the owner of that existing work for the use of that existing work which must be produced to Performance Film & Media Insurance on demand. In circumstances where the Short Film or parts thereof contain images of persons, locations, marks, trademarks and any other images which would require permission for their use, the Entrants must have received appropriate written releases for their use which must be produced to Performance Film & Media on demand. The Entrant shall indemnify Performance Film & Media Insurance in respect of any and all liability arising from any infringement of any rights whatsoever that may arise in respect of the Short Film and, and Performance Film & Media reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant who does not comply with the conditions set out in this clause.

7. The Short Film must not defame any person or entity, or be disparaging to any religion, race, or nation, or contain language that is lewd, obscene or inappropriate, or use any copyrights, images, marks, trademarks or logos for which the Entrant has not obtained permission for their use. Performance Film & Media Insurance reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant who does not comply with the conditions set out in this clause.

8. By entering the Competition, Entrants acknowledge, agree and declare that they are aware that their participation is entirely at their own and that they hereby waive, surrender and relinquish in favour of Performance Film & Media Insurance all claims of any nature and howsoever arising (including as a result of negligence) which but for this waiver, surrender and relinquishment they may or otherwise have against Performance Film & Media Insurance either directly or indirectly arising out of their participation in the Competition.

9. By entering the Competition, Entrants hereby warrant that all information submitted is true, current and complete. Any Entrants who have supplied incomplete, inaccurate or fraudulent information may be automatically disqualified. Performance Film & Media Insurance reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant if Performance Film & Media Insurance has reasonable grounds to believe that an Entrant has breached any of these terms and conditions or has tampered with the Competition process. Failure by Performance Film & Media Insurance to enforce any of its rights at any stage of the Competition does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

10. Incomplete, indecipherable or illegible entries will be deemed invalid. Entrants bear all responsibility to ensure that their entry is complete and legible, and that their Short Film is submitted in the correct format and clearly visible and audible.

11. Upon completion of the following webform. The Entrant must indicate whether or not they grant to Performance Film & Media Insurance a nonexclusive, irrevocable license to Performance Film & Media Insurance to publish their Short Film on the Performance Film & Media Insurance website and communicate their Short Film to the public in the territory of the world, and in full or in part in any other promotional material of Performance Film & Media Insurance, for the purposes of the Competition.

12. Following the Closing Date, the entries to the Competition shall be judged in the following distinct categories:

  • Best Comedy Short
  • Best ‘Short’ Short (less than 5 minutes in length)
  • Best Documentary Short
  • Best Horror Short
  • Best Drama

13. The winner(s) of each Category shall be determined as follows:

  • A judging panel shall be appointed by Performance Film & Media Insurance in its sole discretion;
  • After the Closing Date, Performance Film & Media Insurance shall determine a shortlist of the best Short Films;
  • The judging panel shall view the Short Films on the shortlist determined by Performance Film & Media Insurance;
  • By 10th November 2023, the judging panel shall announce the winner of the £1000 in each category
