FAQs

I’m not a limited company, can I still get a quote?

Yes, whether you are a sole trader with a trading name, a partnership or just an individual, we can offer cover to you.  Just ensure that you put your full name, as the policyholder.

How long will it take for my documents to arrive?

Your documents are available to download the moment you get a quote or purchased a policy. Any problems with downloading them, please contact the team on 0208 256 4890.

There’s lots of us working together, whose name should the policy be in?

There should be one entity (this can be either a person, or a limited company), who assumes overall responsibility for your project (e.g. Leen Productions Ltd).  Their name should be on the filming permit, the equipment hire agreement, and other contracts.  They should be the policyholder in these circumstances.

What are the key bits of information you need to provide a quote?

You will need to have the following information in order to get a full validated quotation:

Freelancer:

  • Hired in Equipment Sums Insured from the hirer
  • Dates you are picking up and dropping off the equipment
  • Limit of Public Liability Indemnity you are required to hold
  • Passport Number and/or Driving Licence Number

Company:

  • Hired in Equipment Sums Insured from the hirer
  • Dates you are picking up and dropping off the equipment
  • Limit of Public Liability Indemnity you are required to hold
  • Company Directors Full Name
  • Company Directors Home Address
  • Company Directors Home Telephone Number
  • Company Directors Mobile Number
  • Company Directors Date of Birth
  • Passport Number and/or Driving Licence Number

In our effort to support the industry and help reduce fraudulent policy purchases, we now ask for more detailed information of individuals related to the policyholder. Should you want further information regarding this please contact the performance team on 0208 256 4943.

Can I cancel my policy, once I have purchased?

Unfortunately, we have seen a handful of people that have used a canceled policy document to hire equipment, or obtain a filming permit fraudulently.  To protect the wider media community, there are no cancellation rights under the policy, so please check your details carefully before you purchase!

However, if you have made a legitimate mistake in your cover which cannot be amended, please speak to us, as we will do our best to work with you to get the correct cover you need.  Under exceptional circumstances, we may ask you to re-purchase the correct cover, and then may be able to refund the incorrect policy.

Can I amend my policy?

Yes, you can make amendments to certain aspects of your policy, such as increasing your cover. However, you will be unable to reduce your cover or remove sections of your policy once you have purchased it.

If you feel you have exceptional circumstances, please speak to us on0208 256 4890 and we will try our best to help.

I’m hiring in someone else’s kit, how do I know how much to cover this for?

You’d need to ask the owner.

The Sum Insured should represent the total replacement value of the kit AS NEW at today’s prices.  You should be provided with this figure from the person or company who owns the kit.  We strongly advise that you do not estimate this figure yourself as, if this is wrong, you could be liable for the shortfall in the event of a claim, rather than the owner of the kit who gave you the wrong figure!

You could always send the hire company, or person you are hiring from, a copy of your quote to check that they are happy with the sum insured.

What is an Excess and how do I know what the Excess is on this Policy?

An Excess is the first amount of any claim that you are responsible for.  Usually, this is deducted from any settlement you receive from the insurers.

Excesses apply under the following sections of cover, and these will be detailed on your quotation and policy schedules, when you come to produce them:

  • Property Damage
  • Producers Indemnity
  • Public Liability
