Cover that takes your image seriously

Reputation is everything. The risks of influencing an audience can be huge and we have a policy designed to safeguard your social interaction.

We understand the risks you might face as an influencer or public figure. Using your platform to influence your audience can leave you exposed to defamation and breach of intellectual property claims, which could relate to anything from a heated Twitter exchange, to something you said at a public appearance, to unwittingly sharing a song or picture that you’re not permitted to use.

Our dedicated cover can protect you against copyright infringement, libel, slander and malicious falsehood in these situations. And, in the event of a claim, we’ll look to cover your legal defence costs and damages too.

We can cover:

  • Defamation
  • Intellectual property infringement
  • Breach of confidentiality
  • Breach of licence
  • Negligence
  • Breach of advertising statutes and codes (when brought by your client)

You can also add in extra benefits, including:

  • Clear and broad breach of contract cover for promotions, endorsements and sponsorships
  • Claims arising from unauthorised access to your social media
  • Automatic cover for claims against clients (agency/brands) and their end clients (brands)
  • Subject to the Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations) Act 2012 or Insurance Act 2015 (where relevant) to give the most appropriate cover possible for individuals or their commercial endeavours
  • Option to work with a client’s own lawyers with our prior written consent
  • Optional enhancement to add up to £50,000 of defence costs to defend regulatory investigations into ad disclosure practices

FAQs

Why might I need this Influencer & Public Figure Insurance?

Your socially interactive work exposes you to risks such as defamation, intellectual property infringement, and breaching advertising statuses and codes. However true or false the allegations made against you are, they may need to be defended in court and this policy will pay for your legal defence costs.

Is Influencer & Public Figure Insurance expensive?

The value of your cover required is dependent on several factors including audience size, who you engage with, what you are influencing and the means of how you influence. However, most importantly it is down to you and how much protection you need from us.

What does Breach of Advertising statuses and codes mean?

If you are paid to praise or promote a product but you do not label the promotion as advertising, you could be reported to a local Trading Standards office and you could be fined.

What is Intellectual property infringement?

You may complete a very thorough search to make sure the content you use is not already owned by another entity but it’s not always easy. If the content you have used is owned elsewhere, the owner can seek compensation from you as you have benefited from their property.

What is Defamation?

A comment that damages a persons, companies or products reputation can give rise to a claim. Liability is determined by the comment being proven to be both false and malicious, or deliberate. Proving truth can take a lot of time and can be very expensive. Learn more about Public Liability insurance here.
